The Epic training camp is ideally placed in January
to support your training for a race like Cape Epic,
Sani2C or Joburg2C. This
camp is fully catered and supported, it includes accommodation, breakfasts and dinner as well as
full vehicle backup on all the days.
This the second training
tour in our annual epic preparation plan. This is a
more intense training camp than tour 1 with much
more technical riding and a significant amount of
climbing everyday. We will be based 90 min from Cape
Town in heart of the Swartland. From here we will be
able to do three different rides into the Pikerberg,
Porterville and Beaverlac and onto Koringberg. The
riding is guaranteed to be epic, scenic, challenging and
different everyday. When:
23-25 January

Where: Departing and returning to Piketberg about
90 min drive up the N7 from Cape Town
Cost: R3000 - 3500

The Riding
Day
1: ~90km with about 1800m of climbing. A rolling
hills route through the farmlands will take us to
the foot of the Piketberg where we will tackle the
first climb of the day. This loose rocky climb will
challenge even the best bike riders skills and the
gradient towards the top will be the ultimate
challenge. The alpine riding on top of the ridge is
spectacular and is followed by the second challenge
of the day, an epic decent down into the town of
Goedverwacht. The climb out of the valley is long
and heats up as the sun looms above. The hardest
part of the day is over now but the weary legs will
feel the rest of the days riding despite a long fast
decent on the way home. Refreshment stops will be at
40km after about 4 hrs and then at 70km passing
through Piketberg town.
Day 2: ~115km with
1300-1600m of climbing. Farmland tracks take us to
Porterville and then onto Dasklip pass which is the
major climb of the day. The decent leads into
Beaverlac where some mountain singletrack awaits.
The climb out of Beaverlac is the last of the day,
but the long road home will test the endurance and
proove to be valuable training miles. Full backup
and refreshment on route
Day 3: ~60km with
about 1000m of climbing. The legendary singletrack
of Koringberg awaits. Todays shorter distance is a
good example of why shorter is not always easier or
faster but is usually heaps of fun. The technical
climbs, miles of singletrack and steep decents make
for exhilirating riding. It will be a great day out
on the bike and an awesome way to end a solid 3 days
of quality training rides. Full backup and
refreshment on route
